ultra low volume (ULV) spray Signifies that
the total volume rate of spray application is very low (5 litres per hectare
or less). ULV pesticide formulations are generally specially developed for
the purpose and are applied undiluted.
uncertainty factor Factor
in toxicological assessment for extrapolation of data from experimental
animals to man (assuming that man may be more sensitive) or from selected
individuals to the general population. For example an uncertainty factor
is generally applied to the no-observed
effect level to derive an acceptable
daily intake.
UVD Ultraviolet absorption detection.
validation In pesticide analysis,
the process for establishing that an analytical method or equipment will provide
reliable and reproducible results.
vehicle See carrier.
volatilisation Evaporation of
a pesticide into the atmosphere from a solid or liquid form.
