Title: Training and Research in Medicinal Chemistry in Developing Countries

Objective:
To identify avenues for advancing training and research in Medicinal Chemistry in developing countries.

Progress:
A first report entitled 'Research and Training in Medicial Chemistry in South and Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa' has been prepared and published in Chem. Int. 21(3), 65-69 (1999). [also published in Cam. J. Biol. Bioch. Sc. (1996) VI(1), 3-10.]

This project continues with investigation in India and China.

The IUPAC's efforts to develop an awareness of the state of medicinal chemistry in different geographic areas of the world and a proposal to achieve more effective international cooperation have been reviewed in an article entitled 'Medicinal Chemistry in the Development of Societies, Biodiversity, and Natural Products', published in Chem. Int. 23(2), 39-42 (2001).

This project was presented at a poster session at the IUPAC Congress/GA July 2001
