How to reach the Free University
building at Habelschwerdter Allee 45:
Tegel Airport
Take the X9 bus, direction Tiergarten, Lützowplatz
or the 109 bus, direction Zoologischer Garten. Leave the
bus at the Underground Station Jakob Kaiser Platz, and
take the Underground U7, direction Rudow. Leave the U7
at Fehrbelliner Platz and go to the U1, direction Krumme
Lanke. Leave the U1 at Dahlem Dorf.
It takes approximately 30-40 minutes to get to the University,
depending on the time of the day.
Tempelhof Airport
Take the Underground U6, direction Alt Mariendorf,
at Platz der Luftbrücke, then change to the City
Train at Tempelhof. Take the S45 or S46, direction Jungfernheide
or Westend. Change to Underground U1, direction Krumme
Lanke, at Heidelberger Platz. Leave the U1 at Dahlem
Dorf.
It takes 20-30 minutes to get to the University.
Schönefeld Airport
Take the city train S45, direction Westend. Change
to the Underground U1, direction Krumme Lanke at Heidelberger
Platz. Leave the Underground at Dahlem Dorf.
It takes 35-45 minutes to get to the University.
At Dahlem Dorf follow the signs to the General Assembly site
at the University.
Public transport
Berlin is divided into three fare-zones (A, B and C). To get
to the University you need an AB ticket.
There are different types of tickets: (prices as of October 1998).
- Short distance ticket (valid for 3 stations by the Underground
or the City Train or for 6 stations by bus)
- A, B, C: DEM 2.50

- Two hour ticket (valid for two hours)
- AB or BC: DEM 3.90
- ABC: DEM 4.20
-
- One-day ticket (valid until 15:00 a.m. on the next day)
- AB or BC: DEM 7.80
- ABC: DEM 8.50
-
- One-week ticket (valid for seven days)
- AB or BC: DEM 40.
- ABC: DEM 48.
One-day tickets and one-week tickets will be available at
the registration desk.
Taxis
Taxis can be found at the airports or at taxi stands in the
city. They can also be ordered by phone. Fares from Tegel Airport
and Tempelhof Airport are about DEM 40.-. From Schönefeld
Airport it costs about DEM 60. to get to the University. The
fare is the amount shown on the taximeter, it includes VAT and
tip.

There are parking lots in Kiebitzweg and Fabeckstrasse (please
refer to the map in the Appendix). They are free of charge.

Currency
The German monetary unit is the Deutsche Mark (DEM).
DEM 1 = 100 Pfennige.
The exchange rate in September 1998 was USD 1 = DEM 1.6913.
Shops
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10:00 - 20:00 & Sat 09:00 - 16:00
Smaller shops may close one or two hours earlier. Sunday shopping
is limited to certain bakeries and a 24-hour shop at the Underground
and City Train Station Zoologischer Garten.

Damage to Property - liability
The German Organizing Committee cannot be held liable for
personal accidents or loss/damage to participants property, including
cars. The University does not have the facilities to secure such
items as money and passports, therefore delegates must remain
responsible for their own property.
