The World Polymer Congress - the 38th International Symposium on Macromolecules sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry - was held on July 9-14, 2000 at the Warsaw University of Technology. The Congress was organized by the Department of Polymer Chemistry of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Lodz and the Chemistry Department of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The scientific program of the Congress was divided into 16 Sections:

  • Synthesis
  • Radical Polymerization
  • Ionic Polymerization including Microsymposium Honoring Michael Szwarc
  • Polyolefins
  • Branched and Star-Like Macromolecules
  • Theory and Modeling of Polymer Systems
  • Polymer Charactenzation
  • Biorelated and Environmentally Friendly Polymers
  • Electrical, Optical, and Dielectric Properties of Polymers
  • Crystalline Polymers and Crystallization Processes
  • Gels and Macromolecular Aggregates: Nanospheres, Microspheres
  • Polymer Blends and Composites
  • Polymers at Interfaces and Polymer Properties
  • Polymer Education and Perspectives of Polymer Science
  • Industrial Polymers and Processes

The Congress was attended by 1500 participants from 54 countries; 16 Plenary and 86 Section Invited Lectures were presented.

These volumes contain 86 Plenary and Invited Lectures, which are published in the same order as they were presented in the original program of the symposium.
