Chemical Nomenclature and Structure Representation Division (VIII)
and
Macromolecular Division (IV)

Number: 2000-037-1-800 (previous 2000-037-1-400)

Title: Nomenclature for macromolecular rotaxanes (revised title)

Task Group
Chairman:
E. S. Wilks

Members:
M. Baron, A. Fradet, J. Kahovec, P. Kubisa, W.V. Metanomski, W. Mormann, G.P. Moss, and J. Vohlidal

Completion Date: 2007 - project continues as #2007-009-1-800

Objective:
Creation of a standard nomenclature system for threaded macrocyclic molecules known as rotaxanes.

Description:
There are currently no standards for nomenclature of macromolecular rotaxanes. This field of polymers has been of intense interest to the scientific community for the last 15 years. Standardisation of nomenclature in this field is highly desirable and long overdue.

Progress:
Comments generated at the Warsaw 2000 meeting, were incorporated; progress reviewed at the GA in Brisbane (July 2001); final acceptance anticipated for 2003.
