Project

Chemistry and the Environment Division (VI)

Number: 1999-034-1-600

Title: Local radiation balance: the influence of aerosol

Task Group
Chaiman:
Sjaak Slanina

Members:
Y. Zhang, S. Schwartz, T. Tavares, F. Roes, and G. Carmichael

Completion Date: 2004 - Project completed

Objective:
To assess in Europe, South America and East Asia the radiative forcing of aerosols.

Description:
Assessment of radiative forcing of aerosols is pursued through compilation of data both from measurements and models. The radiative forcing on aerosols has been recognized as the greatest source of uncertainty in forcing of climate change over industrial period (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC 1996, "Climate Change 1995"). Therefore, climate change scenarios are dependent on the correct radiative forcing of aerosols. Quality of available data will also be taken into consideration.
