COMMISSION ON ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY (VI.2)
Number: 620/26/95
Title: Distribution and Seasonal Variation of Regional Ozone
Coordinator(s): H.
Akimoto
Remarks: World Meteorology Organization/Ozone Data Center
Completion Date: 1997
Objective:
Interests in a long and short term variation of tropospheric ozone
has increased intensively since its possible importance as a greenhouse
gas has been recognized. Synergistic adverse effect of surface ozone
on vegetation together with acid deposition is another serious environmental
concern. The objective of this project is to compile distribution
and seasonal variation of surface ozone with regional representativeness
in the world. The output will provide a global picture of regional
ozone and would be useful for testing of models. WMO/GAW stations
provide surface ozone data with well qualified regional representativeness.
The density of the station is not necessary high enough to cover
the most important part of the world. This Commission of IUPAC is
a suitable body to compile more intensive data taken at a national
level, which fill gaps between WMO stations.
