Physical Chemistry Division (I)

COMMISSION ON ELECTROCHEMISTRY (I.3)

Number: 130/30/93

Title: Electrocrystallization: Concepts and Terminology for Theory and Experiments

Coordinator(s): M. Sluyters-Rehbach and A.A. Milchev

Remarks: Commission I.6

Completion Date: 1997

Objective:
With the advent of such techniques as Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy, it is now possible to examine at the atomic level processes occurring on or at electrode surfaces. This thus necessitates a re-examination of terminology and concepts relating to the theoretical and experimental description of the processes which are occurring at electrodes as these atomic processes are taken into account. Emphasis will be placed on the development of a common language for describing these processes.

Progress:
Project completed - report reference: Pure Appl. Chem., 66(9), 1831-1891, 1994 entitled: 'Impedances of electrochemical systems: terminology, nomenclature and representation - Part 1: Cells with metal electrodes and liquid solutions'
