Objective:
This topic is one of significant and active interest in the scientific community as it has important implications not only in electrochemistry but in many other aspects of surface science.

Progress:
In order to respond to the rapid developments in the field of local probes, Commission I.3 has decided to edit a monograph on this important subject. Forty-three individuals active in this area have been identified and twenty-three have agreed to participate.
