* IUPAC-Samsung Education Prize for 2005
In August 2005, the IUPAC-Samsung Education Prize was awarded to the
Postgraduate Course in Polymer Science organized by Professor Pavel
Kratochvil at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Academy
of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The course has been running for about
ten years now and has established a world-wide reputation for its high
standards and effective training of students in polymer science,
particularly those from economically disadvantaged countries. The award
of USD 5000 will assist a deserving student and will contribute to
Samsung’s goal of stimulating polymer education and research in the
world. See corresponding IUPAC project:

* IUPAC Prize for Young Chemists - 2006 Solicitation
The IUPAC Prize for Young Chemists has been established to encourage
outstanding young research scientists at the beginning of their careers.
The prize will be given for the most outstanding Ph.D. thesis in the
general area of the chemical sciences, as described in a 1000-word essay.
Deadline: February 1, 2006 - for entrants that receive their Ph.D. (or
equivalent) degree during the calendar year 2005.

* 2006 Thieme-IUPAC Prize in Synthetic Organic Chemistry
The deadline for the next call for nominations for the 2006 Thieme-IUPAC
Prize is 9 December 2005. In 2006, the Thieme-IUPAC Prize will be awarded in June at ICOS 16 in Merida, Mexico.

* Chemical 'Naming' Method Unveiled
One can read more about InChI, the free IUPAC software that converts
structures to computer-readable representations, in a recent issue of
Chemical & Enginneering News (22 August 2005 issue, pp. 39-40)

* IUPAC Kinetic Data web site - erratum & update
An error in the summary table for the HO + CO reaction has been
reported. The original expression in the summary table 1.44x10-13 ( 1 +
[N2]/4x10-19 ) is incorrect. The correct expression should be 1.44x10-13
( 1 + [N2]/4x10+19). The data sheet for the reaction is correct.
Also, the IUPAC kinetic data website now provides zipfile archives of
all datasheets.
